Mount Rushmore State Lights who are lighting our way — join us every WE CARE DAY, monthly on the 25th. One day and one act of kindness shared among all of us — of all faiths and no faith. Do it because kindness feels good — and service to others increases your gratitude to God. It is a good thing.
These organizations are quietly doing the work of Matthew 25:40 in South Dakota — feeding the hungry, sheltering the stranger, lifting the fallen — and the important work of assisting those oppressed by life. It is a beautiful thing, responding to those in need as we are all commanded. They serve their neighbors. These are not just examples to follow — they would welcome your time and support of their mission.
South Dakota — Lights shining across the Mount Rushmore State
The largest faith-based human services organization in South Dakota. Refugee resettlement, disability services, behavioral health, and food assistance — statewide. The Lutheran mission to the neighbor, at full scale across the Northern Plains.
Statewide. Food, immigration assistance, refugee resettlement, pregnancy support, and family services. The Catholic tradition of serving the stranger and the vulnerable — alive in South Dakota through every season.
A Christian-founded ministry on the Rosebud Reservation. Food distribution, youth programs, and community development — rooted in faith, led by the Lakota people themselves. Their own community, doing the work from the inside.
Emergency shelter and meals in Sioux Falls. No ID required. No sobriety requirement. The door is open — because people in the worst moments of their lives cannot produce paperwork, and should not have to.
Pine Ridge Reservation. Food security, elder care, and youth programs in one of the poorest communities in the United States. The Oglala Lakota have been on this land since long before South Dakota was a state. Still building. Still serving their own.
The 25th of every month is WE CARE DAY.
One day and one act of kindness shared among all of us — of all faiths and no faith. Do it because kindness feels good — and service to others increases your gratitude to God. It is a good thing.
Share your WE CARE DAY story — the one that made you feel good about doing it. Every little kindness helps. A compliment goes a long way. Jesus says don't tell anyone of your kindness, but we need your example so you only get to use your last name initial so you don't have to compromise your faith. Tell us — what made you feel good helping someone? Your story lights the way for others.
Know a business or organization in South Dakota that shares our values — serving neighbors, lifting the vulnerable, doing the important work of assisting those oppressed by life — Matthew 25:40? Tell us about them and we'll shine a light on their work so that you may patronize these entities who share your values.
